SCMP Conversations:Education 2023
April 20, 2023 (Thu) | Virtual Event
KEY DISCUSSIONS TO BE COVERED
Shaping the future of education for younger learners to thrive in tomorrow’s world
The pandemic had a profound impact on schools and the future of education. It has sparked conversations and debates on how children learn and educators teach. Specifically, should young learners need to catch up after the pandemic? Are children reaching (or not) their milestones as outlined in the curriculum? Aside from academics, how can teachers build up the soft skills in children to set them up for success in the future? How can educators adapt to changing circumstances? Lastly, how can educators lead and design the future of education now for young learners to be future leaders of tomorrow?
Unpacking child-first approach to learning
There is much discussion over the student-centred approach to learning- viewing children as active participants who are competent learners and educational opportunities to explore, investigate, and seek answers to relevant questions. While student-centred learning is still an emerging teaching concept for most people, it has come a long way over the past few years. This session will discuss the following:
- the benefits and shortcomings of a student-centred approach to learning
- how does a child-centred approach shape a child’s learning and development?
- how are teachers utilising student-centred learning techniques in their classrooms in Hong Kong?
